In an age where we can browse dozens of apps that offer similar solutions how does one make their app stand out for the amazing and unique features that they offer?

Trumping competition with a differentiation strategy and a unique selling point is no longer enough, you must also optimize your mobile app for the app store. By ranking higher you stand a much better chance of getting downloads. Here is how to do it right. 

Use Keywords

During the design phase of your app-building process make sure you use targeted keywords. There are tons of online tools that will help you find the right keywords that will boost your rankings when you launch on the app store. 

The same keyword research will also help you in coming up with a name for your app and even the coveted description. 

Name of your App

Though it definitely gets in the way of building a brand, you can always change the name of your app startup. This means you get a chance to keep it optimized for discoverability. 

A neat way around this is to use the strategy when you do not have a customer base. Once people start recognizing your application and downloading it you need to stop as the name has now been established. 

The Description

Your description has to be clear and concise. No need for flowery details. People want to know what you offer. Use keywords, but do not stuff it, it will read unnaturally and people will doubt the performance of your mobile app and pass. 

The App Icon

The icon has a lot to do with why people click on it. Go by a checklist of best practices. Make sure that you keep it simple. Do not put too many elements in your icon as you have to remember the size of it in a person’s phone. Do not use text in it either. Another good trick is to avoid using common shades of colors as used by Google and Facebook, as most app makers will definitely go for the bold and striking hues, and your app will have a lesser chance of standing out. 

Incorporate Screenshots

Users are more likely to download the app when they can take a sneak peek into what it actually looks like. The navigable user experience builds confidence in your ideal customer for how to utilize it. 

Choosing the Category

One of the biggest mistakes app creators make is choosing tons of different categories that they feel their mobile app falls in. Choose the singular most appropriate category so that your app has a better chance to be related to a relevant app section. 
App optimization is still a very new thing where new tips and tricks are being suggested to make your app more visible, the above tips will surely help you beat the competition and rank higher.
