There is no doubt that we are in a golden age right now as far as the mobile app industry goes. Android and iOS have taken over the market, while each operating system has at least half of the behemoths of their respective developer ecosystems. With this influx of new apps, it can sometimes seem difficult for your brilliant little creation to get noticed.

You’re not alone if you have encountered yourself feeling frustrated by the experience of releasing an app that has been in development for years, only to see it fail to gain attention beyond your immediate social circle. You may have even paid for advertising only to find that most of your budget is wasted.

Fortunately, there are many ways now where you can boost the success of your app and bring it to the audience it deserves! Here are five ways you probably missed marketing your app’s success:

Have a Website Link in Your Apps Description:

If you already have a website, you must link it in your app’s description. Even if your website is just a landing page (a page that lets the user know about your app and collects contact information), linking to it will help people focus their feedback on you instead of UserVoice, Reddit, Facebook groups, or other communities.

Use Descriptive Titles and Keywords:

To rank higher in the App Store, you must have a keyword-rich application title and keywords included. A good way of thinking about both of these is by considering if someone were to ask Google for an app like yours. What sort of terms would they be entering?

Have a Unique Selling Proposition:

Does your app do something that other developers don’t do, or does it do something better than others in the same category? Don’t be scared to mention this in your app’s description.

It can help when people are looking for an app. Using language like “Fast, Beautiful, Easy-to-use, Amazing, etc…” you highlight the main points of differentiation in your app.

Get Positive Reviews:

Getting positive reviews can go a long way towards increasing an app’s success. You have to use some common sense here, however. If your users are being bombarded by requests for them to leave good reviews, they’re probably going to get suspicious or annoyed.

A good way of getting positive feedback is by incentivizing users to leave reviews. You can do this by including links within your app that say something like “Help us spread the word about our app by leaving a review,” but you should not include language in the app itself that says “leave us a good review!”

Utilize Paid Advertising:

This one may seem counter-intuitive, considering we listed it at number five. If you want to market your app in the most effective way possible, paid advertising is indeed the best approach in most cases.

You can spend $100 and get 100 downloads or spend $100 and get 10,000 downloads. If you can get many people to use your app, they will naturally tell everyone they know about it, and the word will spread organically.

However, if you are trying to market an application that is new, unknown, or doesn’t have much social interaction around it right now, paying to advertise is a very effective way to gain exposure.

Many mobile applications have changed the face of business and social interaction relatively quickly, and there’s no indication that it might change anytime soon.

With so much competition to deal with, it can sometimes feel like you’re too small to make an impact on anyone but yourself. By following the five tips we outlined above, you can make a difference and hopefully increase the success of your app!
